Candeo Hotels Ueno Koen felt a bit cramped for me, and the room layout wasn’t very convenient. The hanger space by the door was an awkward touch that made the setup feel less practical than I expected. That said, it was still manageable for a short stay, and I can see it working for someone who just needs a simple base in Ueno.
Rooms are small, even in Japan standard. Lobby is small and on 2nd floor. There's no escalator, only staircase or lift, which takes forever to come. Free coffee but no cup available, you'll have to bring from cup from your room, and not available before check in anyway. Breakfast is so so. Name is Ueno Koen but can hardly walk to the park, it's just not that close.
I had a wonderful time at this hotel! Let me go through the reasons for my 4stars: - Room was very comfortable and cosy, clean and well designed. It was a small room, which I believe is standard for Tokyo in this price range. I appreciated the deep bath every night after walking a lot. - Service was excellent. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to answer my questions (especially given my limited Japanese). Be aware that the laundry driers are domestic size, so don’t put large loads in there. However, there is a good coin laundry literally across the road and 100 m towards the train station. Detergent provided and a change machine. Dried a large load in 20 min. - Location: it’s in a red light district, so be aware there are love motels nearby. However, that meant there were great bars and good cheap eating nearby too. That close to the Uguisudani train station only a stop or two from Ueno, Akihabara and Tokyo is wonderful! Hint: don’t go on the trains during peak hour on work days (or do, if you want to experience that - but I found it scary). I really appreciated there being a pharmacy, two Konbini and a Donki department store right near the station - easy to get all those little things you need, even late at night. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you for an excellent time!
Candeo Hotels Ueno Park offers a high-quality "four-star" experience at a very reasonable price, around $71 for a standard stay. It is perfectly located just a 5-minute walk from the South Exit of JR Uguisudani Station, which is only one stop away from Ueno Station on the Yamanote Line. This makes it an excellent and affordable base for exploring the cultural heart of Tokyo. The standard double room is approximately 16m² and features a high-quality Simmons bed designed for optimal sleep posture. While many modern hotels use card keys, this property still uses a rare traditional key type. The room layout, including a low bed design, makes the space feel open and relaxing, even though my specific room did not have a train view. While most Candeo Hotels are famous for their large public baths, please note that this specific location does not have one. However, you can still enjoy a spa-like experience in your clean unit bath by choosing your favorite blend of free bath salts (such as rosemary or orange peel) from the front desk. The lobby is spacious and features convenient services like a currency exchange machine and a selection of wine and craft beer available for purchase. The area is incredibly convenient, with a wholesale supermarket located on the 1st floor of the hotel building—perfect for grabbing drinks and snacks at great prices. You are also just a short walk from the massive Ueno Park, home to the Tokyo National Museum and Ueno Zoo. For a local dinner, I highly recommend "Kofuku Gyoza Sakaba" nearby for their juicy lamb skewers and crispy winged gyoza[cite: 965, 969, 974].
