The staff here is really nice, and the showers and toilets are quiet and incredibly clean. Having sandals provided on the side is a wonderful touch! The only minor issue was that I couldn't find a bin anywhere in the room. I was eating and had to leave my trash by the bed, though to be fair, finding a public bin anywhere in the whole of Tokyo is an absolute mission! Highly recommend this hostel otherwise.
We stayed one night in the simple double room. We knew beforehand that it would be small and basic, but it was extremely hot during the night. The mattress was also very thin, so you could feel the wooden base underneath. We slept very badly. The second night, we stayed in the private superior room, which was a completely different experience. It was much more comfortable, with more space, windows, and a pleasant temperature. The location of Book and Bed is great. The hostel vibe is fine, everybody was considerate of each other and voices were almost silent.
I stayed there for one night last December. I had a night in Tokyo between two trips and wanted an affordable place not far from Shinjuki; in that sense, this capsule hotel met my needs. However, beyond a single night out of necessity, I can’t recommend this place, honestly, even for one night, there are undoubtedly better options... First of all, the neighborhood: the hotel is right in the middle of Kabukicho, so it’s pretty noisy, not enough to keep you from sleeping, but you can definitely hear that it’s lively outside. The hotel is on a small side street. When I stepped outside, at the first intersection on the right, I unfortunately had a bad experience with someone who accosted me in a very insistent manner. I won't go into details about the kind of service that was offered to me, but you get the idea. It’s obviously not the hotel’s fault, but keep in mind that the area is a bit sketchy. As for the welcome, it wasn’t the warmest I’ve had in Japan, but honestly, I don’t really care. The capsules, on the other hand… I’ve stayed in several capsule hotels before, and this one is clearly of lower quality; it feels very cheap, the mattress is super thin, and it was hot inside. If you’re a light sleeper, this is really a bad choice. To end on a positive note, though, the setting is really nice with the books and so on. Sure, it’s less impressive than in the photos, but it still has a good vibe. In short, I think it’s fine to stay there if, like me, you just need a cheap place to stay for one night in Shinjuku. Other than that, I don’t see any reason to stay there any longer.
