TLDR: Worst hotel experience in Tokyo. Review: Room has no ventilation/return for the AC except bathroom so if you take a shower the room will smell musty unless you open the front door. The room keeping is an absolute joke. We stayed 6 nights and they did not remove dirty glassware/refill for 3 of the 6 nights. One the 3rd night I took off the lid of the coffee mug and it had stains from egg yolk - my son used the mug lid to put his soft boiled egg the day before…this means they did not replace the mugs with clean one and simply rinsed it in the bathroom sink….our glass table was not wiped down once the entire stay. My wife was like maybe if we put the glassware on the floor they will wipe the table. Nope. On the last day I had enough and went to the front desk to complain. Instead of apologizing and resolving the issue, the “verbally” friendly person at the front desk tried to put the blame on me and said I did not select full cleaning. I told him we stayed 6 nights. We selected full cleaning every night except the first and last because we were packing/unpacking on those nights. He came upstairs to drop off the glassware a little while later. I showed him the 3 mugs on the floor and asked how it’s possible we have 3 mugs in the room when it comes with 2. He said the room keeping sometimes does not remove things from the table if it has things inside. I told him they are empty and that’s exactly why it’s on the floor…this is almost like a bad sitcom at this point.
I stayed at CANDEO HOTELS Tokyo Roppongi for several nights. Overall, my experience was mixed. The front desk staff were friendly, professional, and helpful throughout my stay. Check-in and check-out were smooth, and they were always willing to answer questions. The rooftop public bath was decent, but nothing particularly memorable. It was clean and functional, though I expected a bit more given the hotel’s reputation. Unfortunately, the room itself was disappointing. There was a noticeable unpleasant odor, especially in the bathroom, which made the room feel less fresh. I also found the bedding did not seem very clean, which was concerning. Housekeeping was another weak point. The room was only cleaned superficially, and it often felt like the service was rushed rather than thorough. Overall, the hotel has a convenient location and good front desk service, but the cleanliness and housekeeping need significant improvement.
The room is very small given the price. But the biggest problem is it smells so bad. The room smells mouldy and dusty even though I turned on air conditioning. The furniture looks worn out and old. The level of cleanliness is low too, the window glasses or mirror has finger prints or greasy marks. The walls of bathroom even has hair on it (on the first day of my check in before I go to shower). I hope the hotel really take the cleanliness seriously as it gives a really bad impression about the entire Candeo hotel image.
The good: - big comfy room! - very good toiletry (smells good and feels good on skin) —- no body lotion (which is normal for Japanese hotel) - simple breakfast. The highlight is the tofu! Absolutely a must try! The not so great: - weird noises all around. Not too loud but those light sleepers would be annoyed - The onsen is just a hot tub, - the sauna smells musty… I didn’t like it.
The rooms are small. Standard for Tokyo I think. The parts that are not standard are the strong smell of mold from the bathrooms. Whoever decided it was ok to not seal the tubs in the bathroom should be investigated for war crimes. The mold is visible from the sides of the tub and the smell is overwhelming. The room looks nice in photos but if you look a little closer, you can see that everything is old and dated. In need of updating. The nice plugs next to the bed? They don’t work of course. The tv is old. Not a smart tv. Gets 6(?) channels but don’t worry there’s pay per view. They don’t clean the rooms well. There are spots on the mirrors by the window and someone left a size sticker from a clothing on the side of the bed and random bits of trash were left behind. The rooms feel stuffy and dirty. I don’t recommend staying here for the price. There are definitely better places available that aren’t here.
