Even the rooms at superior level are just small boxes, where you can’t have two suitcases open at the same time. The staff at reception are reasonably friendly. In the restaurant, they play loud pop music during breakfast, while the head waiter constantly shouts “good morning” to the guests. Not a great start to the morning. The carpet in the restaurant is the dirtiest I’ve ever seen. Downright disgusting. In the attached bar, the staff are very unwelcoming, and you have no desire to come back. Why the hotel believes it lives up to four stars is hard to understand. I think the hotel would be more honest if it gave itself two stars. But Tokyo is fantastic, and you can just use the hotel facilities as little as possible.
4/5 Stars – Great Value with a Few Caveats Overall, I’d give this hotel 4 out of 5 stars. At just over $100 USD per night, I think it’s one of the better values in Shinjuku. I’d recommend it—and would choose it over APA and several other similarly priced hotels—but there are a few things to know. The location is about a 15-minute walk to Shinjuku Station, with smaller subway entrances much closer. It’s on the edge of the red-light district, but don’t let that scare you—the area was surprisingly quiet, and my room was silent every night. The service was excellent. Check-in was smooth, housekeeping was outstanding with daily room cleaning, and the staff often cleaned our room shortly after we left. The rooftop bar had reasonable prices, and the breakfast was excellent for around $15 USD. The rooms are small, but that’s typical for Tokyo. Ours felt comparable to a U.S. college dorm room, but it was spotless, well-designed, and had everything we needed. Most complimentary amenities are available in the lobby. My biggest complaints were the laundry facilities and housekeeping hours. There are only three washer/dryer units, so expect to wait. Also, daily housekeeping ends around 1:30 p.m. One day we left around 2:00 p.m., and staff left a sign saying our room couldn’t be serviced. I honestly found that unnecessary—simply leaving the “Please tidy up” sign would have been a better approach. Despite those minor issues, I’d absolutely stay here again. If you don’t mind walking a little, you’ll get a clean, quiet hotel with excellent service and great value. It isn’t the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in, but I’d happily recommend it over APA and many other budget hotels in the area.
Pro: great location, walking distance to shopping and entertainment district. 10 to 15 min walk to all the Shinjuku stations. Relatively quiet neighborhood. Con: the rooms are extremely small. We booked two double rooms on the 8th floor, and each was smaller than the size of a typical cruise ship room. Hardly any space for large luggage. On our first night, we asked for extra blankets and they didn't have any, which might just be due to the busy season but was very odd to be running out of blankets for a large hotel. Overall, like some of the other reviewers have said, this feels closer to a 2-star hotel than a 4-star. A decent hotel if you are traveling alone or as a couple who travels light. Not the best experience for a family with children.
A wonderful and comfortable stay! Although it’s a bit far from the station, the hotel is located in a very quiet area, which was perfect for a good night's sleep. The room was sparkling clean as they cleaned it thoroughly every single day. The water pressure was great, and both hot and cold water came out perfectly. I also loved that we could freely use the vending machine, microwave, and grab extra amenities whenever needed. Plus, having a supermarket and convenience stores close by made everything so convenient. I’d definitely stay here again!
