I’ve been into craft beer for about 15 years and come from Colorado, where we’re spoiled with hundreds of breweries and a really welcoming beer culture. While staying near Asakusa, I was excited to check out Tokyo Beerzilla after seeing the strong reviews. The beer itself was excellent, no complaints there. They clearly know what they’re doing when it comes to selection and quality. That said, the overall experience didn’t match the beer. I felt unwelcome and honestly a bit awkward the entire time I was there. The seating situation wasn’t comfortable, and it ended up feeling more like a place I needed to get in and out of rather than relax and enjoy a pour. I found myself standing and finishing my beer quickly just so I could leave. If you’re just looking to grab a high-quality beer, it might be worth a stop. But if you’re hoping for a comfortable, inviting craft beer experience, this wasn’t it for me.
I dropped into Tokyo Beerzilla on Halloween and it turned into one of my favourite nights in Tokyo. The bar was full of people in a great mood, some in costumes, everyone with a beer in hand and chatting away. It never felt chaotic, just very friendly and energetic. They have a good selection of craft beers, so I tried a few different styles and everything was fresh and tasty. It’s the kind of place where you can stand at the counter or small tables and easily start a conversation with the person next to you. I ended up talking with a few locals and travellers about different cities, hidden spots in Tokyo, and future travel plans, which made the evening even more memorable. If you’re looking for a bar where you can actually meet people, not just drink and leave, this is a great choice. Tokyo Beerzilla is perfect for a relaxed night out, good beer, and casual conversations with strangers who feel like friends by the end of the night.
A fairly small bar with 4 taps when I visited. There were more cans and bottles in the fridge but we only tried on their taps. Good offer to go on their flight.
A tiny beerhall with 3 indoor bar seats and a standing bar. Two outdoor seats. Quiet at 6pm on a Tuesday in October. Great Double IPA. Nuts available to purchase. Nice vibe. Happy I stopped in. Offered that my partner could bring in a non alcoholic drink from a nearby convenience store.
