Description

Everyone goes to Mount Fuji at ten in the morning, when the clouds have already gathered and the car parks are full. Fuji is clearest at dawn. This is the only private tour from Tokyo built entirely around that fact. Your guide collects you at your hotel at 3:30 AM. You sleep in the van while we drive west. Just before sunrise we are at the Panorama-dai viewpoint above Lake Yamanaka, where the first light turns the summit pink - the Japanese call it beni-Fuji, red Fuji. On still mornings the whole mountain reflects in the lake. From there we drive to Arakurayama Sengen Park and climb the 398 steps to Chureito Pagoda, the five-storey pagoda with Fuji behind it that you have seen on every poster - at 7 AM you will share it with a handful of photographers instead of a thousand people. Then Oshino Hakkai, the village of eight spring ponds fed by Fuji's snowmelt, so clear you can count the trout, before the shops open. Breakfast is Yoshida udon, the thick chewy noodles that pilgrims ate before climbing the mountain. Then a soak in an outdoor hot spring facing the mountain - Beni-Fuji no Yu at Lake Yamanaka is our favourite - and the drive back, with you at your Tokyo hotel by about 12:30 PM, the whole afternoon still free. WHAT YOU PAY IS WHAT YOU PAY The price is one fixed amount for your whole group: the private van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide for the day. There are no per-person supplements and no booking fees. Onsen entry and breakfast are paid by each guest on the day. GOOD TO KNOW Fuji is visible on around 80 percent of winter mornings and fewer in summer; we cannot promise a clear sky, but dawn is the best chance there is. If the forecast is hopeless we contact you the evening before and offer another date or a full refund. It is cold at dawn even in July - bring a jacket. FLEXIBLE DAY This is your private tour, so the day is flexible. If you want to skip a stop, stay longer somewhere or add a place nearby, write it in the booking notes or tell your driver-guide on the day and we will adjust the route where time allows.

Important Information

• Pickup is at 3:30 AM - please be in the hotel lobby on time. Dawn is cold at the lake even in summer; bring a warm layer. Chureito Pagoda involves 398 steps; a road drop-off near the top is possible for anyone who cannot climb. If the weather forecast makes Fuji impossible we message you the evening before and offer a new date or a full refund. Onsen and breakfast are paid by you on the day. Bring a towel or rent one at the onsen. Pickup and drop-off can be changed on request at no extra cost. Travelling with small children?
