Description
Most travelers never learn Tokyo's best secret: one third of Tokyo is mountains. This fully guided private day takes you to Okutama, the forested far west of Tokyo Prefecture — sacred peaks, moss valleys, and river gorges, just 90 minutes from the neon. Your guided day begins in the Mitake valley. Ride the Mitake cable car up to the shrine (round-trip ticket about 1,200 yen per person, paid at the station). From the top, walk with your guide through a tiny mountain village of pilgrim inns to Musashi-Mitake Shrine, standing at the 929-meter summit for nearly 2,000 years. Your guide shares the legend of the white wolf deity that protects travelers — and on clear days, you can see all the way back to the skyscrapers you left behind. Next, descend into the Rock Garden: a hidden valley trail of moss-covered boulders, small waterfalls, and mountain streams that feels like a Ghibli film. This easy guided forest walk is considered one of the most beautiful in all of Tokyo — and almost no international visitors know it exists. For lunch, enjoy the mountain specialties: handmade soba noodles and fresh local tofu in the village (naturally vegetarian-friendly; halal meals can be arranged on request). In the afternoon, walk the riverside path of Hatonosu Gorge, often called the most beautiful spot in Okutama, where the Tama River cuts between forested cliffs. Finish at a Lake Okutama viewpoint, the quiet reservoir lake in the mountains, before your guided drive back to the city. Most travellers only ever see city Tokyo. This day shows you the mountain third of it. Small, personal, and fully hosted from hotel pickup to drop-off.

The Mitake cablecar round-trip ticket (about 1,200 yen per person) and your own lunch are paid by each guest on the day.

This is your private tour, so the day is flexible. If you want to skip a stop, stay longer somewhere or add a place nearby, write it in the booking notes or tell your driver-guide on the day and we will adjust the route where time allows.

- The shrine walk is a gentle 20–30 minute uphill village path; the Rock Garden loop can be shortened on request
- Wear comfortable walking shoes with good grip — the moss and stone paths can be slippery
