This 2-day winter journey takes you deep into Japan’s Tohoku region, combining iconic scenery, cultural heritage, and unforgettable seasonal experiences, all led by a professional tour guide who accompanies the group throughout the trip. Day 1 begins with a morning departure from Tokyo. Guests gather at designated meeting points (Tokyo Station or Shinjuku) or enjoy optional hotel pickup within central Tokyo areas. Sit back and relax as your guide introduces the day’s highlights while traveling north toward Yamagata. In the afternoon, arrive at Ginzan Onsen, a historic hot spring town with over 500 years of history. Stroll freely along the river lined with Taisho-era wooden ryokan, gas lamps, and snow-covered streets—an atmosphere often compared to the world of Spirited Away. Enjoy time to explore, take photos, try local snacks, or soak your feet in a public foot bath. After Ginzan Onsen, continue to Naruko Onsen, one of Tohoku’s most famous hot spring areas. Check in to a traditional onsen hotel and unwind in natural hot spring baths known for their rare mineral compositions. Dinner features a seasonal Japanese kaiseki-style meal showcasing local ingredients, followed by a peaceful overnight stay. Day 2 starts with breakfast at the hotel before heading to Zao. Ride the Zao Ropeway up the mountain to witness the famous Zao Snow Monsters (Ice Monsters)—towering, frost-covered trees formed by harsh winter winds and snow. From the summit, enjoy panoramic winter views and close-up encounters with this rare natural phenomenon. In the afternoon, visit Zao Fox Village, home to over 100 free-roaming foxes of several species. Observe, photograph, and interact with these animals in a carefully managed and safe environment.
