Description

A unique and complete experience of Japanese calligraphy (shodō). We'll learn to write characters with a brush and discover the structure of the Japanese language, the meaning of some important ideograms, and the cultural context that surrounds them. When you arrive, we'll start with a cup of matcha tea to calm your mind. Then we'll prepare the ink slowly, listening to its sound and breathing in its scent. Before you start writing, you'll learn the structure of the Japanese language in a simple and fun way: the three types of writing (kanji, hiragana and katakana), their history and the origin of foreign words. After this introduction, you'll pick up the brush to write a Japanese word of your choice or your name in 'katakana'. You'll also discover how kanji, despite being complex, are fascinating for their pictographic origin and the internal logic between radicals and components: even without knowing how to read them, they can be 'intuited.' At the end of the experience, you'll get two free gifts: a guide with useful phrases for traveling in Japan and an illustrated card with the timeline of Japanese history. A complete activity to learn, write, and fully experience Japanese culture.
