Description

This tour takes you on a walking journey through Asakusa, one of Tokyo’s most historic and culturally rich districts. Along the way, you’ll enjoy local delicacies, discover traditions, and experience the essence of Japan. Your first stop is Kaminarimon, Asakusa’s iconic gate. Under its giant red lantern, you’ll take memorable photos while learning about the story behind this famous landmark. Next, recharge with a taste of “kaminari-okoshi”, a traditional sweet that has been loved since the Edo period. Continue on to Nakamise Street, lined with shops selling uniquely Japanese souvenirs. Here, you can try crispy agemanju if you wish, and pause to watch live cooking demonstrations of freshly made ningyoyaki—sweet cakes shaped like little dolls, baked right before your eyes. The highlight of the tour is Sensoji Temple, one of Tokyo’s oldest and most revered temples. Your guide will share its history and legends before inviting you to experience authentic Japanese worship customs—drawing a fortune slip (omikuji), wafting purifying incense, cleansing your hands at the water basin, and offering coins with a prayer. Afterward, stroll through Hoppy Street, where postwar-style izakaya pubs line the alley. Here, you’ll feel the lively, retro charm of another side of Asakusa. Finally, the tour concludes along Denboin Street, where Edo-period architecture and atmosphere remain alive, offering a picturesque finale to your walk. Through this tour, you’ll gain a well-rounded experience of Asakusa’s history, culture, and food. Perfect for first-time visitors to Japan as well as those who want to deepen their understanding of this storied neighborhood. ✨ Optional Add-on: Calligraphy & Kanji T-Shirt Workshop (60 min) Before your walking tour, you can start your day with a Japanese calligraphy experience at Fontya, a local studio in Asakusa. Learn shodo (the art of Japanese calligraphy) from a professional instructor, practice brush techniques, and write your name in kanji. Your handwritten design will then be printed onto a T-shirt — a one-of-a-kind souvenir to remember your time in Japan. The session lasts about 60 minutes and includes English interpretation, all materials, and a protective apron.
