Description
Kouichi Store is a long-established kimono shop with a history of over 170 years.
Your experience begins at the historic tea room Rakuu-tei, located inside the serene Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. Upon arrival, our staff will guide you in selecting a kimono from a range of seasonal designs.
Seasonal Note: From June 1 to September 30, we offer yukata (a lightweight summer kimono) instead of regular kimono, so you can enjoy the garden comfortably during warmer months.
The full process—including reception, selection, dressing, and simple hairstyling for women—takes approximately 60–90 minutes. Once dressed, you are free to explore the garden at your own pace.
Please arrive by your scheduled start time. Late arrivals may result in longer wait times as other customers will be prioritized.
Please note that the final return time is 5:00 PM. To make the most of your experience, we recommend booking an earlier time slot.
Our professional dressing team will provide everything you need, including an obi belt, tabi socks, traditional sandals, and a Japanese-style handbag.
After your stroll through the garden, please return to Rakuu-tei for kimono removal.
Important Notice (Weather Policy – Premium Silk Kimono Plan)
The Premium Silk Kimono Rental with Dressing in Shinjuku Gyoen may be affected by rainy weather. If bad weather is forecast, we may contact you by the day before your booking to offer a change of date, a change of plan, or a full refund. Please reply to our message. If we do not receive a response, your reservation may be canceled at our discretion. If we cancel your booking due to bad weather, you will be offered a full refund.

Includes
Full kimono rental with professional dressing, including kimono, obi belt, tabi socks, traditional sandals, and a Japanese handbag. A haori jacket is also included for men
Reception, kimono selection, dressing, and hair styling (for women only) take about 60–90 minutes
Free time to explore the garden (final kimono return by 5:00 PM)
Hair Styling (women only): Basic styling is included. Additional styles are available as paid options
Note: Traditional sandals are unavailable on rainy days due to mud. Free Japanese umbrella instead
Note: Once you have chosen and worn your kimono, it cannot be changed
All guests are required to present a valid passport or government-issued photo ID at check-in. This is necessary to verify your reservation and to comply with Shinjuku Gyoen’s security regulations. Guests who cannot present identification may not be able to participate in the activity

Entrance Fee to Shinjuku Gyoen: The entrance fee to Shinjuku Gyoen is not included and must be purchased separately
There is no restroom inside the building. Please use the restroom outside before coming to our shop
Photography plan not included: A photography option is not currently available
Final Return by 5:00 PM: The kimono must be returned by 5:00 PM, allowing you ample time to enjoy your experience. Returns after the final time will incur an additional fee of ¥1,100
Please note that kimono rental is limited to inside Shinjuku Gyoen. Guests are not permitted to leave the garden in kimono
Important Information
- It takes about 10–15 minutes to walk from Shinjuku Gyoen (Shinjuku Gate) to the meeting point. Please arrive with enough time
- There is no restroom inside the building. Please use the restroom before coming to our shop
- You cannot leave Shinjuku Gyoen while wearing the kimono
- All guests must present a valid passport or government-issued photo ID at check-in
- Please note: Kimono sizes are limited. If you have any concerns, please message us your height, weight, and body type when making your reservation
