Description
Start your journey in Ueno, exploring the lively Ameya-Yokocho (“Ameyoko”), a bustling market street that grew from a post-war black market. Stroll through vibrant alleys filled with shops selling clothes, seafood, and street food, and enjoy local snacks like takoyaki, grilled skewers, taiyaki, dried fruits, and sushi while soaking in the nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere.
Continue to Niki no Kashi No.1, a long-standing Japanese snack wholesaler with over 70 years of history. Browse a wide variety of nostalgic sweets and local snacks at great prices.
Next, visit Marishiten Tokudaiji Temple, a hidden spiritual spot beloved by locals, known for bringing good fortune in business and success in competitions.
Then, head to Shinobazu no Ike Bentendo, where the lotus flowers bloom beautifully in summer. Capture scenic views of the pond, boats, and skyline as your guide points out the best photo spots.
Afterward, stop by Kiyomizu Kannon-dō Temple, a peaceful wooden temple in Ueno Park dating back to the Edo period. You can receive a Goshuin (temple stamp) and learn about its historical background and Buddhist traditions.
Before returning to Ueno Station, take a short break at Ueno no Ren-gai, a nostalgic indoor food alley where you can enjoy light bites, sweets, or a daytime drink in a cozy Showa-style atmosphere—the perfect place to relax before the tour ends.
