Great location — definitely a 5+ for convenience. The hotel is under the train tracks, so the train noise is real and should not be ignored when booking. That said, after a full day of walking, shopping, and exploring Tokyo, we were usually so tired that the train noise didn’t bother us much. If you’re suffering from jet lag, however, you probably won’t sleep well regardless of how quiet the hotel is. Our room was noticeably larger than a typical Tokyo hotel room, which was a pleasant surprise. We paid only $404 for three nights by booking about six months in advance, and for that price, I would absolutely stay here again. At the end of the day, a Tokyo trip is rarely a relaxing vacation for us. It’s usually a busy trip filled with sightseeing, shopping, and lots of walking. When we want a truly relaxing getaway, we normally visit other parts of Japan. If you know what I mean, then you’ll understand why this hotel worked perfectly for our Tokyo stay.
convenient location close by to the train stations, shops and restaurants. the accommodation was spacious enough and provided what we needed. the accommodation is under a railway line and you can hear the trains going overhead, this wasn't an issue for us as we sleep with ambient sounds playing however if you like to sleep in a silent environment this wouldn't be for you. not as spacious as the other places we stayed in japan, however we did know this on booking the accommodation, we stayed here with our 2 children who are 8 and 6 years old so this mattered for them but not for us as adults.
Location location location. Our group of 6 adults (over 65yrs) were in room 20. We found it very very clean and suited our needs perfectly. Our check in was prompt and easy. We were given a QR code that was used to access the building after hours and our room. We stayed in a bunk room. We did not find the train sounds to be a problem. Maybe because we had just arrived to Tokyo from USA on a 13hr flight. Yes, we would stay again and recommend Under the Railway Hotel in Akihabara for your stay. Ask for room 20 and see how quiet it can be.
The hotel is excellent. Rooms are small but functional we had no issues. The bathrooms are a bit crowded but again useable. The staff are also excellent and helpful. The location of this hotel is its main attraction in the heart of Akihabara it has ample access to transit and attractions, food, shopping, etc. the only downside is the rail noise but you get used to it and ear plugs are provided. Would definitely stay here again.
Such a fun place! Very central to all of the public transport we needed. Walk 5-10 minutes to get into the heart of akihabara food and energy scene, or walk north to ueno for the market-style lane way shopping. The rooms are very well designed for their size. We didn't feel cramped at all. Underbed storage is available as well as a small space at the foot of the bed to stow luggage out of the way. The bathroom is standard and clean, and the room amenities (air con/heating) work very well. Staff are very hospitable and helpful. The main cafe area has microwave and free amenities (tooth brushes, slippers, face washers, tea bags and cups etc). Access is via a QR code. They give it to you in paper but if you take a photo on your phone you can use it easily that way. Noise is definitely present from the trains, and it is loud! If you're a sensitive sleeper, don't stay here. We didn't have any issues since we are used to city noises at night, but there are also earplugs for free if needed and worked well to reduce sound about 50%.
