Had an amazing omakase experience here just a few blocks away from where we were staying. Walked by and asked for a reservation that evening and they were able to easily accommodate. All the flavors were excellent and presented in unique ways. Everything tasted extremely fresh! We especially loved the mushroom soup and eel. The chef explained each dish thoroughly and how to enjoy them. The hostess at the end gave us some souvenirs which was such a lovely and personal touch. A great last dinner in Japan!
I was in Tokyo for a few nights and was looking to get a sushi experience. As they say, when in Rome. So Sushi Gyoen was amongst the place Google map recommended that wasn't all too far from my hotel, I decided to give it a shot and man am I glad I did. I walked in and saw this omakaze only setup, It's tiny and lucky for me they had ONE spot left. Being solo that night, I sat down amongst the locals at the counter and they quickly brought the drinks menu. Chablis for me please :) I'm treating myself tonight. So I snapped a picture of every bite but one. :\ A meal I will remember for a long, long time. Thanks to the chef and (I believe) his wife for the kind and attentive service, delicious food and a night I'll remember.
I made a booking yesterday, asking how much is the omakase and the owner said it’s 15,000yen. Then I had the omakase today and they charged me 18,000yen, which was 3,000yen more than what they said. The wife of the owner kept saying gomenne(sorry in impolite tone in Japanese) for charging me more expensive price. I asked them why is the price is different but she just kept saying gomenne (I didn’t order drinks) The owners should’ve told me the reason for the sudden upcharge which was extremely unpleasant. Also, I was the only Korean customer by that time and I could understand the conversation between the owners and the Japanese customers, they were laughing at me in Japanese and I had to pretend I’m not understanding. Maybe I expected too much from the good reviews. What a shame.
