This activity is perfect for those traveling between Tokyo and Hakone, offering a peaceful retreat from the bustling city. Step into the temple’s main hall, a spacious tatami room enveloped in serene silence. Immerse yourself in the traditional Japanese art of calligraphy, guided by a Zen master who embodies the spirit of Zen. All materials, including brushes, ink, and washi paper, are provided. Wear a comfortable samue, a traditional Zen garment, to fully relax and embrace the experience. Under the gentle guidance of the Zen master, learn the deep meanings behind each brushstroke. Even beginners can confidently enter the world of calligraphy, supported by the master’s warm instruction. The sound of grinding ink, the rising scent of ink, and the focused movements of the brush create a meditative experience, allowing you to deeply connect with your inner self and soothe travel fatigue. At the end of the experience, choose kanji character to write. The Zen master will help you select a character that resonates with you, explaining its meaning. Create a unique scroll, a lasting memento of your journey, infused with Japanese aesthetics and the spirit of Zen. From Odawara Station (Taxi) Approx. 20 minutes by taxi. (Bus) Take the 8:22 AM bus ( 小15 route) bound for Shimosoga Station . Alight at the 'Higashicho' (東町) stop, then walk for 2 minutes. (JR) Take the JR Tokaido Line to Kōzu Station (国府津駅), transfer to the JR Gotemba Line, and alight at Shimosoga Station. Approx. 8 minutes walk from the station.
