Description
Discover the timeless art of Japanese name seals in this private Hanko workshop in central Tokyo. Held at a long-established seal shop, this hands-on cultural experience is perfect for travelers seeking something unique and meaningful beyond sightseeing.
Your experience begins with a warm welcome at the meeting point in Otemachi. With guidance from a multilingual host, you’ll learn about the cultural role of Hanko in Japan—how these seals have been used for centuries as a symbol of identity and authenticity.
Next, you’ll choose how to represent your name in kanji or katakana, with thoughtful explanations of the meanings behind each character. Once your design is set, select a calligraphy style and begin carving your seal. No prior experience is required—expert staff will support you throughout the process, ensuring both safety and precision.
When your seal is complete, you’ll stamp it with traditional red ink, admire your first impression, and take commemorative photos. Your personalized Hanko, presented in a protective case, will be yours to keep as a functional and symbolic memento of Japan.
This small-group workshop (maximum 4 participants) is fully accessible and designed for all ages. Whether you are a first-time visitor or a returning traveler, this activity offers an intimate way to connect with Japanese culture. More than just a souvenir, your Hanko will become a lasting reminder of your journey—something to treasure long after your trip.
