Description

Did you know you might never have been allowed to traveled to Japan if not for Emperor Meiji? Or that global icons like Lady Gaga drew inspiration from Harajuku fashion? You won’t just hear about Japan’s history, you’ll feel it come alive through stories, humor, and moments that make this part of Tokyo unforgettable. Our guides are known for their warmth, energy, and genuine passion for sharing both tradition and street culture, that’s why guests keep saying this was a highlight of their trip! Walk through two worlds in one tour! Harajuku and Meiji Jingu :) We begin in Harajuku’s famous Takeshita Street, where today’s youth culture shows itself through colorful fashion and sweet treats. Just a few minutes later, it feels like you’ve jumped back in time. Passing through towering wooden gates, we enter the vast forest of Meiji Jingu Shrine, built in 1920 to honor Emperor Meiji. Along the way, we’ll also explore Omotesando, an avenue inspired by European style, and talk about how Western influence reshaped Tokyo in the Meiji era. From modern pop culture to imperial traditions, this walk reveals how Tokyo lives in both the present and the past at the same time. Then we’ll enter the tranquil forest surrounding Meiji Shrine. Inside the shrine grounds you’ll learn proper shrine etiquette and the cleansing ritual at the hand washing basin, all explained and practiced together with the guide so you can try it the right way :) Our guides are the number one thing that makes this tour special: friendly, energetic, and full of stories and practical tips. They love answering questions and will give local recommendations to deepen your stay in Tokyo, so please do not hesitate to ask. Whether you’re here for the culture, the fashion, or just want a deeper connection to Japanese tradition, this tour is perfect for you! We want everyone to feel comfortable, so please wear whatever you like, tattoos are welcome, and there is no dress code! Our small-group tours make it easy to ask questions to your guide about anything in Tokyo (doesn’t have to be tour related). Whether you’re a couple, family, or traveling solo, we want you to leave with a real sense of Meiji Shrine, Harajuku street culture, and local traditions. We look forward to welcoming you on this tour! All the best from Team Sunrise Adventure
