Description

Leave the city behind and explore Japan’s cultural heartlands on a 2-day private tour from Tokyo to Nikko and Karuizawa. Travel comfortably in a Toyota Alphard with your personal chauffeur, and enjoy a relaxing blend of heritage, nature, and onsen retreat. Day 1 – Tokyo → Nikko → Kinugawa Onsen Depart from your Tokyo hotel around 8:00 AM and head north to Nikko (approx. 2.5 hours), home to ornate shrines and lush forests. Visit Toshogu Shrine, the elaborate resting place of shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, and Rinno-ji Temple, founded in the 8th century. Stop by the striking red Shinkyo Bridge, a famous photo spot at Nikko’s entrance. Lunch is self-arranged at your choice of local restaurants—try Yuba Zen for Nikko’s famous tofu-skin dishes, Hippari Dako for casual yakitori, or Meiji-no-Yakata for Western-style meals in a historic villa. Your chauffeur will help you find your chosen restaurant and reconfirm your meeting time. In the afternoon, drive up the scenic Irohazaka mountain road to Kegon Falls, one of Japan’s most beautiful waterfalls, and enjoy a short walk by Lake Chuzenji, surrounded by mountains. Expect cool air and breathtaking views. Arrive in Kinugawa Onsen around 5:00–6:00 PM and check in to your hot-spring ryokan. Depending on availability, your stay will be arranged at ISSHINKAN Ryokan, Kinugawa Plaza Hotel, or Monogusa no Yado Hana Senkyō . All are long-standing Japanese inns offering traditional tatami rooms and mineral-rich baths fed by natural hot springs. Relax before dinner and enjoy a peaceful evening in the mountains. Day 2 – Kinugawa Onsen → Karuizawa → Tokyo After breakfast, depart around 9:00 AM for Karuizawa (approx. 2.5 hours), a stylish mountain resort known for its European flair and cool climate. Explore Old Karuizawa Ginza Street, filled with cafés, boutiques, and local delicacies. Lunch is self-arranged—choose from Bakery & Restaurant Sawamura for European dishes, Kawakami-an for handmade soba noodles, or Mikado Coffee for its famous mocha soft-serve. The area is flat and easy to walk, and your chauffeur will wait nearby. In the afternoon, you can visit Shiraito Falls, a spring-fed “curtain” waterfall in a quiet forest, or stop for outlet shopping at Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza before returning to Tokyo. Arrival back at your hotel is expected between 6:30–7:00 PM.
