Description

This private journey through Nagano invites you to explore timeless temples, snow-covered valleys, and quiet onsen towns while learning about the balance of nature and mindfulness that defines this region. Your journey begins with a warm greeting from your private driver-guide at your chosen pickup location in Tokyo or Nagano. Settle into a comfortable private van for a scenic drive through the Japanese countryside, surrounded by mountain views and peaceful rural landscapes. Your first destination is the Zenko-ji Temple, one of Japan’s oldest and most sacred pilgrimage sites. Here, you will walk through ancient temple grounds filled with history and quiet devotion. Your guide will share the story of the hidden Buddha statue and the deep spiritual meaning behind this iconic site. You’ll also have time to explore the surrounding temple street filled with traditional shops and local specialties. Continue to the famous Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, where wild Japanese macaques bathe naturally in hot springs amid a forest of steaming pools. The 30-minute forest walk to the park is scenic and peaceful, offering a glimpse of rural Japan at its most authentic. Entrance ticket to the Snow Monkey Park is not included and must be paid directly by the customer. Afterward, enjoy a relaxing visit to Shibu Onsen, a charming hot spring town where the air carries a trace of mineral warmth. Stroll through its narrow lanes lined with ryokans and wooden bathhouses, take photos of the historic streets, or enjoy a short break for tea or snacks. You will then head to Obuse, a small artistic town known for its museums, chestnut sweets, and Edo-period charm. Wander through quiet streets, visit local shops, or sample Nagano’s famous chestnut desserts. Depending on your chosen route and available time within the 10-hour limit, optional stops can include Matsumoto Castle, one of Japan’s most beautiful original castles (entry ticket not included), or Matsushiro Castle Ruins, an area rich in samurai history and peaceful scenery. Lunch is not included in the tour price. You can stop at a local restaurant of your choice or ask your driver for recommendations. A flexible break can be taken anytime during the day depending on the schedule and your preferences. After a full day of exploration and reflection, relax in comfort as your driver returns you to your drop-off point in Tokyo or Nagano.
