Reviews
Having been to many onsens/ryokans throughout Japan in my years, it's not bad for Tokyo, but the onsen is remarkably small and compact. Only two bathes and 6 washing stations, overall nothing spectacular. Beds were comfortable and service was quick and friendly. Overall nice atmosphere and location is pretty good.
The hotel itself was very nice. We ran into a reservation issue between Chase Travel and the hotel’s booking system, which was frustrating, but the hotel staff handled the situation professionally and did their best to help. The room was comfortable. I upgraded to the double room after hearing that the semi-double rooms are quite small, and I’m really glad I did. Even with the double room, it was a bit challenging to fully open both of our suitcases. I can’t imagine how tight the semi-double would have felt. The onsen was clean but fairly small, and it became crowded during peak times. While the nighttime city view was nice, I personally prefer onsens surrounded by nature. If you’re looking for a more traditional or relaxing onsen experience, I’d recommend going somewhere else. However, if you’re staying here primarily for the location and want the convenience of having an onsen at your hotel, it’s still a good option.
This was a really great hotel and we had a wonderful stay. The location is perfect. In Shinjuku, good access to the train station, which made it very convenient for getting around Tokyo. The room was not huge, as expected in Japan, but for us as a couple it was absolutely perfect. It was comfortable, clean, and had everything we needed. One of the biggest highlights was definitely the onsen on the 18th floor. The view over Tokyo was amazing, and there is both an indoor and an outdoor area, which made the experience even more special. The staff were very kind, helpful, and welcoming throughout our stay. Overall, we really enjoyed our time here and would definitely come back again.
I stayed at Onsen Ryokan Yuen Shinjuku for two nights. Overall, it was a pleasant stay, though I do think it’s a little overhyped on TikTok. The two things I was most looking forward to were the view and the onsen. Unfortunately, my room was on Level 3, and the glass windows were frosted, so there wasn’t really any view. The onsen itself was relaxing and well-equipped with amenities, but it was much smaller than I expected. My partner and I stayed in the semi-double room, which was extremely compact, though the bed was very comfortable. The hotel is about a 15-minute walk from the main station. It can feel quite far at the end of the day after walking 20k+ steps around Tokyo. That said, the surrounding neighborhood is quiet, charming, and has plenty of good food nearby. I think this is a good option for a first-time visitor to Japan who wants a light introduction to the ryokan experience while still staying in Tokyo. However, if you want a more authentic and immersive ryokan stay, I’d recommend staying at a traditional ryokan outside the city instead.
Beautiful, peaceful, traditional hotel on a quiet street right next to busy Shinjuku. We loved our stay here, from the delicious Japanese breakfast, to the top-floor onsen, to the view from our room on the 12th floor. The staff was also super friendly and nice. We loved having a traditional-feeling space tucked away in close proximity to so many great amenities. The onsen space is a bit small compared to others I've seen, but it was still really nice and comfortable; it also didn't get crowded while I was there. Other reviews will say the room is small, but we had space for 1 suitcase and 2 travel backpacks in our semi-double room (just stay organized). Also, the shampoo and conditioner was really nice! I wish I knew the brand.
