I stopped by Asakusa Monja Zenya for my first monja experience in Tokyo, and it was such a fun find. The staff and service made the visit feel easy and welcoming, and the monja dishes I tried were memorable in the best way. The lemon highball and matcha ice cream were a nice finish too. I left genuinely happy with the whole meal.
Accidentally found this resto on google while we're walking around Asakusa and we got curious because the rating was really good. This place was very crowded even though we came here at around 4PM, but wait time was short and we got served quickly. We ordered pork kimchi monjayaki and modern okonomiyaki. This was the first time we heard of monjayaki. The consistency was a bit confusing (between soup and pancake?) but it tasted amazing. Okonomiyaki was excellent though, the seasoning was just right.
Absolutely loved this place!! One of our favorite meals in Tokyo. We had monjayaki and yakisoba — both were incredible. The staff were so kind, helped us cook everything, and made the whole experience really fun. It felt super authentic (we were the only tourists!) and the quality was amazing for the price. Would 100% recommend and definitely come back!
The food at this restaurant was out of this world. We had the assorted okonomiyaki and garlic edrmame. Miho cooked our food with a smile to perfection. Menu is in English and other languages. Each person must order one item at least and there’s a two hour maximum time limit! Highly recommend this restaurant! Sugoi!!!
It was a Monday around lunchtime when my mum, my older sister, and I came to 浅草 (Asakusa) because we planned to have lunch at this restaurant. This もんじゃ (monjayaki - Tokyo-style savory pan-fried batter dish) restaurant is my mum’s favorite and a must-eat whenever she’s in Tokyo, so of course we had to come here again this time. It was around 12:20 pm, and luckily there was no queue at all. After I wrote down my name, we were called and seated immediately. This time we were seated in a private room, which was actually our first time sitting in one here. At first I thought it would be nice, but unfortunately it turned out not to be very comfortable. The room felt quite narrow, small, and stuffy, with very little fresh air, and the music was way too loud. It felt quite stiff and not relaxing, so personally I wouldn’t want to sit in the private room here again. After we sat down, we ordered my mum’s favorites, which are really the best here: 明太子もちもちもんじゃ (mentaiko mochi monjayaki - monjayaki with spicy cod roe and mochi) with cheese topping, and 豚玉お好み焼き (butatama okonomiyaki - pork okonomiyaki pancake). We also ordered 白子バターソテー (shirako butter sauté - sautéed cod milt with butter), which was new for us because we all love 白子 (shirako – cod milt). My sister also ordered a glass of beer. After a while, a staff member came in with the ingredients for the 明太子もちもちもんじゃ and started cooking it right in front of us on the teppan. It was really nice to watch, almost like a little performance during the meal. Once it was ready, we couldn’t wait to eat it. It was super delicious as always - full of flavor, and the combination of mentaiko, mochi, and cheese worked perfectly together. We all loved it. After we finished that and waited a bit, another staff member came in with the ingredients for the 白子バターソテー and cooked it in front of us as well. The portion wasn’t very big, but it was absolutely delicious and we all enjoyed it. Not long after, our 豚玉お好み焼き (pork okonomiyaki) arrived. It had already been cooked, so I placed it on the teppan (iron griddle) to keep it warm and cut it for us. It was tasty, but there was a bit too much sauce on top, which made it a little too salty for our taste. It would be nice if they cooked it in front of us and let us add the sauce ourselves. Overall, we still had a satisfying lunch here and the food was delicious. The only unexpected disappointment was the private room. I hope they can improve the comfort there in the future.
