Kanimatsuri Crab Restaurant
Tokyo

I had an excellent and filling meal here. The snow crab option was great value even though the 60min time limit seemed quite short, but I'm not sure I could have eaten more beyond that limit anyway
Honestly eating here was wonderful! Days prior we went through the restaurants and kiosks is Tsukiji Market eating all the seafood we liked, and while they were good price wise, I felt like it was not a great deal for the amount of food you were getting, but I understand given that it is a touristy area. So when we chanced upon this restaurant on our way back, my husband knowing how much I love crabs immediately planned for us to go back and try it days later. It did not disappoint because we were treated to a really good meal, especially the crab set with King Crabs and Snow Crabs. We didn't do the unli crabs since I thought it would be too much & ordered ala carte. For this set we paid 15K yen (when in the fish market we paid 7K yen for 1 leg!). We ordered tempura bowl as well as the crab bowl and the miso soup with crab was also so so good! If there was something I would say if there was something a bit off-putting, it was the sauces and the sauce station, especially the "fake butter sauce", if you're going to eat with the sauces - i recommend the spicy chili sauce & the crab vinegar with pepper & the plain soy by the table. But putting my issue about the butter sauce aside I would definitely go back! I immensely enjoyed everything, the steamed crabs were fresh & tasty.
Kanimatsuri is a bit of a rollercoaster… but let’s start with the star of the show: the food. Absolutely. Insane. If you love crab, this place is going to have you questioning every other seafood meal you’ve ever had. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. No notes. Just… wow. Now let’s talk about the experience getting there. We walked in and about 10 minutes later were asked if we had a reservation (fair)… but the vibe from our waitress made it very clear she was not thrilled we existed. Mind you, there were only about three other tables seated, so it wasn’t exactly chaos. We were eventually seated, but then waited about 15–20 minutes before a gentleman came over and actually took our order. Once he stepped in, things improved—but that first impression? Yeah… not great. So here’s the deal: Food = 10/10, worth every bite Service = felt like we accidentally crashed someone’s private event Would I go back? For the food, yes. Would I brace myself for the attitude? Also yes.
A well-known crab buffet restaurant at Tsukiji Fish Market, offering both buffet and à la carte options. Personally, I felt the buffet time limit might be a bit tight, so I chose the à la carte “Hanabi” Assorted Crab Platter, priced at 25,000 yen. The portion was very generous—more than enough to leave me completely full. One big advantage of ordering à la carte is that there’s no time limit, so you can enjoy your meal without rushing. The crab was excellent—fresh, sweet, and high quality. This is likely because the restaurant is very popular with individual tourists rather than large tour groups, meaning the ingredients turn over quickly and are always fresh. However, if you’re someone who eats fast and can handle large portions, the buffet option would probably be more worth the price.
We really enjoyed this meal, the service is amazing, the seafood is so fresh and the value for money is excellent! If I were to eat the same meal in the UK or USA if would easily have cost 3-4 times what we paid. It was a little difficult to find the restaurant and the building it's located in seems a little "dodgy"... but we didn't feel unsafe as the majority of the other business have mostly very small women working there, if you catch my drift ... If you're in Tokyo and a crab lover it's well worth visiting this restaurant!
