My second visit during my 2 week trip. That’s how you know how good this place is. The tonkatsu was super tender and juicy, with a flaky crust on. The sets were very affordable as well. We ended up paying less than ¥2000 for two people. We waited quite a bit (45min) when we came during lunch hour on our first visit. On our 2nd visit, we came at 6:30pm-ish and didn’t wait at all. Overall, I can confidently say that this is by far the best tonkatsu I’ve ever had. Definitely worth a visit!
We always include this tonkatsu shop whenever we fly to tokyo yearly. This is our 4th time here. The whole staff changed now. In previous years an old man and his wife are operating the shop and that is when it tasted the best. Still good food and value for money. We well come back again.
Food: The tonkatsu here was exactly what I wanted. The crust was crisp and held its texture well, and the pork stayed juicy underneath. What I liked most was how straightforward and satisfying the whole set felt. Nothing distracted from the cutlet itself. It was just a very good version of a dish that depends on getting the basics right, and they clearly do. The contrast between the crunchy coating, tender pork, rice, cabbage, and soup made the whole meal feel complete without being too much. Service: Fast and organized. It had the feel of a place that serves a lot of people but still keeps the food coming out the way it should. Summary: Easy 5/5. This was simple, well executed, and very satisfying from start to finish.
Found this local katsudon spot through a recommendation and decided to give it a try while in Ueno—trusted the reviews and just went for it. We arrived around 2 PM for a late lunch, with no expectations other than craving a good katsudon and miso soup. Luckily, there was no line when we got there. We ordered three different set meals, and everything was so good. The miso soup was rich and flavorful, and the katsudon paired perfectly with the wasabi—it really elevated the dish. And the katsu sauce? Absolutely divine. The staff were also very polite and attentive, accommodating all our requests. Portions are quite generous, especially the rice, but you can ask for a smaller serving if you prefer. Definitely a spot I’d recommend. Would love to come back next time I’m in the Ueno area!
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. Been in other tonkatsu places in Tokyo and abroad and I found this one particularly authentic, cheap and delicious. We got one lower and one upper loin and both were perfectly cooked and tender. We arrived quite early around 6.30pm on a Friday after our flight and we waited very little. The place seems to be visited by both locals and tourists.
