Had an absolutely fantastic dinner here. Went for the set dinner sitting upstairs. One of the mid tier price levels. The service was very attentive, the ambiance was very pleasant as it felt truly like a contemporary, fusion, metropolitan restaurant in Tokyo. Lots of modern interpretations of traditional Japanese flavours. A little trickier to get to as it is a bit of a walk to the closest metro station.
This was a very cool restaurant with amazing food, great atmosphere and a cool vibe. We came as a more expensive dinner during our stay in Tokyo and were not disappointed. The quality of food was amazing and each bite was better than the last!! Innovative menu! We had counter seats and it was very cool seeing the chefs at work. I would recommend getting the al a carte menu, rather than the omakase as you can choose what you like and get a better value for money. We ordered 6/7 al a carte dishes between 2, with wine and it came to around £45 per person, which was exceptional value!! Would definitely recommend while in Tokyo but would mention it doesn’t feel authentic Japan, as everyone at the counter were tourists!
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Censu Tokyo Went here to celebrate a birthday and tried the omakase with wine pairing. Overall, we were very satisfied with the selection. For the price (around ¥15,000), this is actually very reasonable compared to other omakase places that can easily go ¥30,000 and above. Considering the cost, the experience is excellent value for money. It’s important to set expectations — if you’re comparing this to ultra high-end omakase, you’re missing the point. There were about 10 dishes, and a few really stood out: * Foie gras — the highlight for me. It literally melted in my mouth. Paired with crispy bacon and strawberry, the flavors worked surprisingly well together, each element complementing the other. * Spinach with peanut sauce — unexpectedly good. * Zucchini dish — simple but well executed. * Fresh oyster — a surprise for me. I usually don’t enjoy oysters, but this one didn’t have that strong “sea” taste, so it was very approachable. Just to manage expectations: this place feels more like a casual, bar-style dining experience, not fine dining. So don’t expect a formal setting — you’re here for the food and creativity, not the ambiance, chairs, or music. Also, a few dishes were served close together. If you prefer a slower, more traditional pacing, you can let them know. That said, the chefs still delivered a solid experience. Overall, a great value omakase — worth trying if you want quality without the premium price tag.
We had a wonderful dinner at Censu Tokyo and chose the chef’s choice menu, which was a great way to try several dishes and experience the chef’s cuisine. We were seated upstairs, which was a bit quieter than the counter area. We truly enjoyed every dish, but our favorites were the yellowtail sashimi, the potato salad, the unigiri, and the cha siu pork, which were all absolutely delicious.
The food and the atmosphere are certainly good if not very good. It just felt very touristy and the prices are more Hong Kong than Tokyo appropriate. Also the cheeseburger roll needs to be a bit bigger, please. I would still recommend to anyone looking for a less Japanese meal out though.
