This cozy restaurant, with its limited seating, was our second attempt after a long wait during our first visit. We were prepared to wait over 30 minutes this time, but the experience was well worth it. The beef was served with a beautifully browned exterior while maintaining a slightly raw center. The meat was expected to be cooked over a hot iron plate, and the provided condiments perfectly complemented the beef. Apart from the wait time, the food was delicious.

Juicy, crispy, and perfectly cooked! If you’re craving gyukatsu (beef cutlet) in Asakusa, Asakusa Gyukatsu is a fantastic choice. I loved every bite of my meal here. The star of the show is the beef cutlet: beautifully pink and tender in the middle with a super crispy panko coating. They serve it on a hot stone grill right at your table so you can cook it to your preferred doneness — such a fun and interactive touch! Watching the edges sizzle was great, and the meat stayed incredibly juicy. The set comes with a generous portion of white rice, shredded cabbage, a small rice ball, miso soup, and several dipping sauces (including a rich sesame one, mustard, and more). Everything was fresh and balanced — the cabbage was crisp and refreshing, which pairs perfectly with the rich cutlet.

The staff was amazing but let’s talk about the food. Never had it before and I would stand in line again for it. Some of the traditional items on the tray I didn’t know what it was but the nice server did not hesitate to explain each one and how to eat it. No shame if I didn’t like it just try. Will definitely be making a stop here the next time we are back in this area.

Another awesome dish to add to my list of favorite foods in Japan—gyukatsu. The name pretty much says it all if you know a bit of Japanese: gyu means beef, and katsu usually refers to something fried. The twist here is that the gyukatsu isn’t fully cooked when it’s served. It comes rare, and you’re given a small hot stone to cook the meat yourself. How cool is that? It’s also served with three types of sauce, shredded cabbage, and miso soup. I enjoyed every piece while cooking them one by one—some more well done, others kept medium. Either way, every single bite tasted great. Definitely a fantastic gastronomic experience, and easily one of the highlights of my foodie adventure in Japan on this trip.

One of the best beef cutlets I’ve ever had! 🍱 We went there around 3pm and still had to wait for 30–45 mins but it was totally worth it! We ordered one small and one medium size. Once we got inside, the food was already served. So efficient! The beef cutlets were very tender, soft and delicious. The portions were also very generous. Depending on your preference, you can grill it for as little as 2s or more than 5s. Personally, I preferred it medium rare and enjoyed dipping it in their mountain wasabi sauce, soy sauce or rock salt. You can even pair it with tororo (Japanese mountain yam). Both of them tasted great! I enjoyed eating them with wasabi sauce and I just love Japanese rice! It paired perfectly with the tororo.
