If you fancy incredible NZ wines you’re in the right place and Wayne is extremely personable. An encyclopedia like knowledge about wine and sake, unpretentious and keen to deliver what your taste buds desire! If happy to just have a yarn at the bar, and try some delicious drops be sure to try some very moorish truffle oil edamame! Anything on the wine list is nothing short of outstanding!
Living in Japan for several years, Rangitoto Tokyo became one of my favorite restaurants. Chef Trevor's dishes are European Japanese fusion in the best way. Out of the main courses, the aged wagyu and wild venison are two highlights. For appetizers, you can't go wrong with the chicken and shiitake mousse or the crab bisque. And definitely go out of your way to make it to one of their wine dinners or for their special Christmas roast course dinner when it's available. The drinks menu has a focus on wines from New Zealand as well as sake. Of course they have an excellent selection of wine by the glass and bottle, but definitely don't neglect their sake menu. The owner Wayne is super knowledgeable about both and is happy to recommend the best pairings with each dish. Well worth going out of your way for. I found it best to make a reservation for early in the evening so I could take my time and relax. Definitely a good atmosphere.
I was missing New Zealand and happened to discover this place, such a little gem! An omakase experience blending Japanese and New Zealand cuisine, beautifully paired with amazing wines that brought back wonderful memories from my time in New Zealand. A real journey in one dinner. Definitely recommend it, and the staff is incredibly friendly.
I had a wine pairing course, and every dish was amazing, perfectly matched with the drinks. The chef was wonderful and kindly adjusted the ingredients I couldn’t eat. The owner was also excellent, giving detailed explanations about each dish. The atmosphere was fantastic. I will definitely come back. Thank you all for the wonderful experience.
