KABUKI Sushi
Tokyo
Avis
Just landed in Tokyo and this was my first stop. A chill, intimate spot with absolutely delicious sushi made in front of you at the bar. Definitely a great way to start a trip.
This was the one food experience I was looking forward to in Japan and unfortunately it just wasn't on par with my other experiences. I made sure to make a reservation and when I walked in the chef who's in all the pictures asked the waiter to ask us for our name which I gave and he nodded to the far left of the bar. No welcoming, nothing. I don't care where I'm seated as long as I get a good experience and explanation of what I'm eating. I was not attended by the chef in the pictures but another person and I initially ordered the 10 piece premium omakase. I then asked what the difference was with the 12 piece just in case I should order that, and the chef said "that's not what you ordered". I took it as a language barrier and just nodded to stick with my original choice. Apart from 2 explanations every other piece was just put in front of me and they told me the name but I didn't even get to see how it's prepared as the seats on the left of the bar are covered by a glass counter. Part of an omakase experience is watching the art of the chef preparing it. I watched as the chef in the pictures made pieces for other guests and they really enjoyed themselves and the experience. For me, personally, it was subpar. The craft ginger ale was really nice but I honestly felt rushed like I was taking up space so I didn't order any other drinks or dessert. We left and ended up getting dessert elsewhere. Again, my experience obviously differs from all the other great reviews on here but I would've preferred a more intimate, explained journey through the sushi of Japan. To be fair some of the pieces were EXCELLENT while others were ok. Maybe with an explanation of what they were or how they were prepared I would feel differently. Every other experience we had in Japanese restaurants from sukiyaki to gyukatsu in Kyoto provided a great explanation of what we were eating and that made me enjoy it more.
Ordered the 10 piece omasake and was amazed by the quality of each sushi piece i was served. Flavours, textures and quality was just top notch, and considering the price i would call this a huge bang for your buck. Cant get much better for the price!
We had the best time! Friendly to foreigners, open late, must try the snake sake behind the counter! We did not get the omakase and im glad we ordered ala carte. The best was seared salmon, chu toro, & japanese tiger prawns. Very mellow and chill nice to get out of the hustle and bustle! Can't wait to come back
Omakase Dinner – 12 Piece Set Atmosphere: I was hoping to be seated where we could watch the meal being prepared and really experience the atmosphere of an omakase dinner. Unfortunately, we were seated facing a wall, which was disappointing considering the $160 per person price. Food: The food was good and well prepared, but the portion size left me wanting a little more by the end of the meal. Overall: Under better seating circumstances I would likely recommend the experience, but for the price I’m sure there are other places that may offer better value if you shop around.
