Small ramen but delicious ramen shop. Ramen broth is thick and flavorful. Ask for garlic or onions for additional topping to enhance the flavor. A bit of queueing is expected due to small dining space (roughly 15-20 pax). Thus, it's widely expected that people would leave the table once done eating. Otherwise, others would have to wait outside until enough empty seats are allocated.

I actually came here back in December 2016 and never got around to writing a review back then. During my trip this time round, I made it a life goal to come back to this ramen institution before my time was up in Tokyo. I was hanging around Sunshine City and after working up an appetite walking and getting a Shinobu Kocho Grandista figure from a claw machine (IYKYK), I was super keen for a big meal. I arrived around 8pm and there was a line extending round the corner. As the shop is quite small with limited seating, waiting is almost guaranteed as part and parcel of the experience - pretty much the same back in 2017. I ordered a Chashu / Tyashu Ramen with extra crispy fried garlic (upon seeing others mentioning this) and a serving of 5 pieces gyoza. As I was a party of one, I was fortunate enough to skip a few parties of 3-5 and got my place in the restaurant faster than expected. Once I sat down in my seat in the restaurant, I waited about 5 minutes before my order came to me (see photos attached). The taste was just as amazing the first time I tried it and I'm definitely not complaining about the thick chashu pieces (ramen purists probably have their own views on this but I'm viewing this from a value for money perspective). I managed to speak to a fellow customer during my meal and he said the broth is a bit too salty for him and his family, this I do agree with but it still didn't prevent me from cleaning up the entire meal like a vacuum cleaner. Next time I'm back in Tokyo, I'll make sure to come back a third time and hopefully more! Highly recommended to the max!

Googled for late night ramen and this turned up. Closes at 4am in the morning, so this is as late as it gets. There were 4 couples before us when we arrived, and we waited about 15 mins for our turn. English menu was provided for foreigners. Order is taken while you are at the Q then you are whisked inside to counter seats where you can order beer or Coke. You can also order fresh garlic which will be served with a garlic press for you to crush it yourself and into the soup. It seems there are 3 main soup flavours, the regular soup, the thicker fatter version and the crab miso version. There is also some dry ramen version which looks really interesting with raw yolk. The soup was savoury and not as salty as it looks, i ordered the thicker soup while my wife order the regular. The thicker soup was fattier and much more savoury without being saltier. Noodles are the thick type, and the pork is thick and tender. What i especially liked were the bamboo shoots. It tasted slightly sweet with a soft crunch, unlike in other ramen shops. It is also one of the rare ramen shops that serve green leafy vegetables in the soup. And of course their famous printed nori. Shop is small and space is tight, with many dinning etiquettes displayed in English at the entrance. Service was fast and efficient but staff looked tired and unsmiling. Toilet is very small but clean.

Good, But Is It "Invincible"? Managing the Weight of Hype. Mutekiya (無敵家) in Ikebukuro is perhaps one of the most famous ramen spots in Tokyo. While the name implies invincibility, the reality is a bit more nuanced. It is undoubtedly a high-quality bowl of ramen, but the experience is often colored by the immense expectations that come with its fame. • 🍜 The Culinary Profile: The ramen here is undeniably robust. The broth is exceptionally rich and creamy, and the chashu (braised pork) is thick, fatty, and satisfyingly heavy. If you enjoy a "heavy-hitting" Tonkotsu style, you will not be disappointed by the food itself. • ⏳ The Wait-Time ROI: I waited for one hour, and frankly, I don't believe any ramen is worth that long of a wait in a city as culinarily gifted as Tokyo. However, if you happen to pass by and there is no queue, this is an above-standard, top-tier bowl that I would recommend without hesitation. • ⚠️ THE SLEEP SAVER (Pro Tip): Pay close attention to the green tea provided at the table. It is a highly concentrated liquid. You must dilute it with plenty of water. If you drink it straight or too strong, the caffeine hit is so intense you might not be able to sleep at all that night. • 🏙️ Tokyo Context: In a city where world-class ramen is around every corner, calling this "Invincible" might be a stretch. It is a solid, reliable, and delicious choice—just don't let the hype distort your reality. Verdict: A solid ramen shop. Go for the thick chashu, but only if the line is manageable.

The Chashu at Menya Mutekiya isn't sliced, it's served in thick chunks—and the seaweed even has printing on it, so cool! The broth is super rich with a hint of crab flavor, while the noodles are soft yet chewy. The Chashu is well-marinated; the lean parts are a bit firm, similar to the braised pork at Taiwanese banquets, but the fatty bits are where the real magic is. The shop is small, but they’ve maximized every inch without feeling cramped. Everyone just eats in peace. They have every seasoning you could want. The line never ends—it’s so popular! To see the "finish" message at the bottom of the bowl, I pushed through to the last drop. It felt like a manly pact between the chef and the diner: just big bites of meat and hearty gulps of soup.
