Tsukishima Monja Kuuya Tokyo Station

This was the most fun we had at a meal in Japan. They prepare the monjayaki batter in front of you on a griddle, then give you tiny spatulas to scrape bits off as it cooks. At first the batter is runny and had the consistency of melted cheese, but later on it gets more concentrated and flavorful. It also crisps up on the bottom, which is my favorite part. We got the mentaiko mochi monjayaki (recommended) and the kimchi pork monjayaki. Both were good, but I especially liked the flavor of the mentaiko and how the mochi gets extra crispy on the bottom. The service here is great as well. Our server Nori-san was super friendly and fluent in English. He took time to explain how everything worked, and we had a nice chat while he cooked the monjayaki for us. One thing to note is that a monjayaki takes one person an hour to eat because of how small the spatulas are. Make sure to watch the time if you need to catch a train!
We visited this casual restaurant on the second day of our Tokyo trip, had such a wonderful experience that we decided to visit again the night before we flew home. The monja is delicious, the staff is super friendly and helpful (especially the host, as well as the waitress Rioko who remembered us from the week before), and the atmosphere is fun and lively. If we get a chance to visit Tokyo again we would definitely come back! Note: Several members of the staff speak English fluently, even the ones who don't are still super friendly. They have an English menu for foreign visitors.
The staff were very friendly just like at the other branches. They welcomed tourists and were kind to children. The staff named Satsuki who served us was smiling the whole time. The man who greeted us at the entrance spoke English very well. They also had toys for kid. We were very impressed with everything.
We’ve never had monja before in the US but wanted to give it a try when in Japan. Yui was our server and we had no issue ordering food. She gave us an English menu too that was super helpful with recommendations for first-timers. Yui was skillful and made sure we understood when to eat and if we enjoyed our meal. Def worth navigating station maze to try!
Zen is amazing! He was so helpful reviewing the menu with us and helping us choose what to pick. We don’t speak Japanese and he was very patient explaining to us everything in English. The food is absolutely amazing! You can customize it to your preference and he even helped explain the proper way for us to eat it. They absolutely deserve their high rating and I highly recommend eating here!
