My first time trying monja - I got the recommended spicy cod with mochi and cheese. It was delicious!!! My server/chef Mami was awesome, she's so skilled with the spatulas and super friendly. Second floor has a very cozy atmosphere. Loved the experience and would definitely go again.
I went into this place looking for okonomiyaki, but decided to try the monjayaki instead -- I'd never had this dish before. Ordered it with chicken and egg. Absolutely delicious, and it was fun seeing it prepared on the griddle at my table. Beer is the ideal beverage with this meal. There's a 380 yen per person cover charge, for which you get a tasty egg appetizer. It'd be a mistake to skip this place over that tiny charge. The staff is great. I'm a solo traveler, and my check for one person came to just under 3000 yen -- you'll pay more if you order a more elaborate dish.
Tried Monja Moheji Ueno and it was a really fun experience. The waitress cooked the monjayaki right in front of us, and I was so amazed I forgot to take photos 😂 The monjayaki was delicious savory and unique. Definitely worth trying if you’re in Ueno!
