This is my favorite stall in Ueno. Heads up that it gets quite busy and be prepared to wait. I wished I branched out more to try more items, but I was still full so I only tried the oysters and the shirako. The raw oysters were huge, but fresh. There wasn't any fishiness at all and it had a nice clean finish as you eat them. The shirako is fish milt (sperm sac) and whole it might sound unappealing, this stand prepared it well. It was creamy and soft. Sprinkle just a bit of soy sauce and seasoning on it, but don't over pour the sauce. It was delicious. Cash only of course.
This place has an authentic Japanese vibe with a stand-up bar style. The seafood is incredibly fresh, the sashimi is excellent, and the meat is tender and delicious. The chef also gives great recommendations on how to enjoy each dish — even though it’s in Japanese, it’s still easy to understand. If you visit during winter, I highly recommend trying shirako. Every time I go to Ameyoko Market, I always stop by this shop. I really love it, and I always enjoy the wonderful atmosphere every time I come.
Came for lunch on a Saturday. Standing drinks/seafood otsumami. 丼 looked delicious but it wasn't served for lunch. Excellent and varied selection of high-quality Nihonshu. Will be back, highly recommend.
A lively standing bar with the authentic Ameyoko atmosphere. The seafood, including fresh raw oysters, is excellent, and there’s a great selection of sake to try. They also serve some rare types of fish, which is a nice touch. It’s not the kind of place to sit back and relax — more for a quick drink while sightseeing. There’s usually a line, but the turnover is quick, so the wait isn’t bad at all.
