I recently visited this restaurant in the Ameyoko area, which I'd been curious about, for a business dinner! It's conveniently located just a short walk from Ueno Station and Ueno-Okachimachi Station. The restaurant is surprisingly spacious, with plenty of seating and comfortable private rooms, making it ideal for impromptu gatherings or large group dinners. But what's truly impressive is the vast buffet area! The main hot pot ingredients include fresh meat and vegetables, seafood like shrimp and shellfish, and even unusual toppings and noodles, including those popular in the currently trending Mala Tang. As adults, we often have fixed preferences and tend to choose the same things, but here, the sheer variety made me feel like a kid again, genuinely struggling to decide! (laughs) Furthermore, the dessert and fruit area is incredibly impressive! The fact that we could eat as much of the premium ice cream "Haagen-Dazs (vanilla, strawberry, cookies & cream)" as we wanted was exciting enough, but the real highlight was the fruit corner. Not only were there melons and large grapes, but also blueberries, whole uncut peaches, dragon fruit, and even a whole durian! It was astonishing! Durian is rarely seen in Japan, so it had such a presence that I imagined a group might be having fun playing a game of "the loser of rock-paper-scissors has to eat it" (it has a unique smell, but the rich, addictive taste really piques curiosity!). The hot pot was served in a delightful "one pot per person" style, with two different soups to choose from. There was a wide variety of tempting soups to choose from, but this time I went with "Mala soup" and "Tonkotsu soup." The Mala soup had a strong spiciness, but the lingering umami and richness made it a truly authentic and addictive flavor. The tonkotsu (pork bone) soup, on the other hand, wasn't heavy or overpowering; it had a mild and gentle flavor that enhanced the taste of the ingredients. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, with shellfish like abalone still moving actively from the tank right before serving! Every ingredient blended perfectly with the soup's broth, allowing us to fully enjoy the firm texture and delicious flavor of each ingredient. The joy of customizing a delicious hot pot to our liking, combined with the entertaining and luxurious buffet, made for a fantastic time, with lively conversation flowing throughout with our business associates. This restaurant is sure to satisfy not only private banquets but also those looking for a slightly unconventional dinner. Thank you for the delicious meal!
I went there for a meal with a friend! We went to "Kaisen Ichiba Happo Ueno Branch" in Ueno. The restaurant had a lively atmosphere, with many Chinese customers and staff, making it feel like we were visiting a local Chinese market. I was excited from the moment we walked in! The seafood, meat, and vegetables were lined up in abundance, making the selection process enjoyable. The variety of hot pot dishes was extensive, and the ability to customize the sauces kept us entertained until the very end. The live teppanyaki cooking right in front of us was also a highlight! The marbled beef, in particular, was exquisite when shabu-shabu style and dipped in the special sauce. The staff were friendly and attentive, making it a restaurant where you can enjoy not only the food but also a sense of escape from the everyday!
I'm not a fan of hotpot, and I have found the place quite expensive. I mean, seafood ain't cheap, but this place is more expensive than expected, especially considered that you are the one cooking. Service was great.
